Emerald Lakes is well-placed in one of Florida's prime areas for recreation and entertainment. Located near an abundance of waterways, the Indian River / Intracoastal Waterway, 72 miles of sandy Atlantic beaches, and over 200 parks. Residents can enjoy a wide variety of outdoor activities including fishing, boating, swimming, wind surfing, golfing, tennis, hiking, camping, biking–the list goes on and on.

From the Canaveral National Seashore at the north of the county to Sebastian Inlet State Park at the southern tip of the county, there are miles and miles of sandy beaches for recreation. The parks and recreation departments of Brevard County and various municipalities, along with private business concerns, operate recreational facilities such as golf courses, racquetball courts, ball fields, skateboard parks, an ice-skating rink, beach and lake-side parks.

As far as recreational attractions go, baseball enthusiasts will be happy to know that Brevard County Florida is the spring training home of the Washington Nationals baseball team and Port Canaveral’s thriving cruise ship industry, along with the Kennedy Space Center, NASA, and Astronaut Hall of Fame, provide wonderful recreational opportunities. In addition to all this, world famous Disney World, Sea World, Universal Studios and other popular Orlando attractions are well within one and one-half hours driving time.

The cultural calendar on the Space Coast is jam packed with outdoor events, festivals, art shows and musical programs every weekend.

Brevard County is a major tourist destination with attractions that include the Brevard Zoo, Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge, Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, Space Coast Stadium, and Patrick Air Force Base (PAFB).
